This privacy policy applies to the Kadenz iPhone and Apple Watch app and to the kadenzlab.de website. It explains which personal data is processed when you use these services and which rights you have.
1. Controller
The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Digitmedia e.K.
Owner Tim Friedrich
Gertrudstr. 17
44388 Dortmund
Germany
E-mail: support@digitmedia.de
2. Principle: local processing without a Kadenz account
Kadenz does not require a user account. The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs and has no cloud or backend connection operated by Digitmedia. Training and health data is not automatically transmitted to Digitmedia or to third parties for advertising purposes.
The processing required for the app’s features takes place on your iPhone, Apple Watch, connected Bluetooth devices and within Apple Health. Health data is processed only after you have explicitly granted permission for the relevant data types in Apple Health’s system settings.
3. Data processing in the app
3.1 Bluetooth devices and sensor data
Kadenz uses Bluetooth to connect to an FTMS-compatible indoor bike and, optionally, a heart-rate chest strap. The app may receive and process locally:
- the device name and technical Bluetooth identifier of the bike or chest strap,
- power, cadence, speed, distance and active energy,
- heart rate as well as technical connection and time information.
The identifiers of the most recently paired bike and chest strap are stored locally so that Kadenz can reconnect to them. Sensor data is used solely for the live display, workout control, summary calculations and — with your permission — storage in Apple Health. Kadenz does not transmit this data to Digitmedia servers.
The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR. Where measurements constitute health data, Art. 9 (2) (a) GDPR also applies. You can withdraw Bluetooth access at any time in iOS Settings; the affected features will then no longer be available.
3.2 Apple Health
Kadenz accesses only those health data types in Apple Health for which you have explicitly granted permission.
The app may read:
- workouts,
- workout power, cadence, speed, distance, heart rate and active energy,
- the latest blood-oxygen (SpO₂) value available in Apple Health, including its measurement time.
The SpO₂ value is displayed on a read-only basis. Kadenz does not perform a blood-oxygen measurement and does not write SpO₂ values.
The app may write to Apple Health:
- indoor-cycling workouts with start, pause and end times,
- power, cadence, speed, distance, heart rate and active energy where the value is available and you have granted the relevant permission.
The data is stored in your device’s Apple Health store. Apple protects and manages this store as part of iOS and watchOS. Any synchronisation that you enable in Apple settings, in particular through iCloud, is Apple’s responsibility and is governed by your Apple settings and Apple’s privacy information.
The legal basis for processing general personal data is Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR and for health data your explicit consent under Art. 9 (2) (a) GDPR. You can change or withdraw each read or write permission at any time in the Health app or iOS Settings. Withdrawal applies to future processing. You can view and delete data already stored in Apple Health there.
3.3 Apple Watch and device communication
If you use the Apple Watch feature, the Watch may record the workout and heart rate. Bike measurements and commands such as start, pause and stop are exchanged between iPhone and Apple Watch using device functions provided by Apple. This communication is used only for workout recording and remote control. Kadenz does not send this data to Digitmedia servers.
3.4 Local settings, workout history and notes
Kadenz stores locally on the iPhone:
- identifiers of recently paired Bluetooth devices,
- the “Prefer Apple Watch” and “Auto-Pause” settings,
- a technical version value for Apple Health permissions already requested,
- workout titles and notes entered by you, together with the associated workout identifier and modification time.
With your permission, Kadenz reads workout history and measurement series from Apple Health. Custom titles and notes remain exclusively in the app’s local storage; they are not written to Apple Health or transmitted to Digitmedia.
Local settings and notes can be removed by unpairing, editing or deleting them in the app, or by deleting the app. Deleting the app does not automatically remove workouts and measurements already stored in Apple Health. You can delete those in Apple Health or — where technically possible — from Kadenz’s workout history.
3.5 No location, advertising or analytics data
Kadenz does not request location access and does not process an advertising identifier. It does not create user profiles, send crash or usage analytics to Digitmedia, or use health data for advertising, data trading or profiling.
4. Website: hosting and server log files
The website is static and hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. When the website is accessed, the web server processes technically necessary access data in server log files. This may include:
- the accessing device’s IP address,
- date and time of access,
- the requested URL and amount of data transferred,
- referrer URL,
- browser type, browser version and operating system,
- access status or error messages.
Processing is based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the secure, stable and trouble-free operation of the website and in preventing and investigating misuse. Hetzner processes this data as a hosting provider on our behalf. Log data is deleted or anonymised after the retention period configured for the hosting service has expired, unless longer retention is necessary to investigate a specific security incident. Further information is available in Hetzner’s privacy policy.
5. Website: no cookies or tracking
The website does not set cookies and uses no analytics, advertising, audience measurement or tracking services. Fonts and other content are delivered locally; a normal page view does not load content from external CDN or social media providers.
Your choice between light and dark appearance is stored only in your browser’s
localStorage. The setting is not transmitted to the server or read by
Digitmedia. It is necessary to provide the appearance you requested and is
stored without consent pursuant to section 25 (2) no. 2 of the German TDDDG.
6. Contact, feedback and external links
If you contact us by e-mail, we process your e-mail address, the content of your message and any information you provide voluntarily in order to respond. The same applies if you voluntarily open the “Report bug/suggestion” link in the app and submit information there. The app does not transfer data to the feedback form without your action.
The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your enquiry concerns entering into or performing a contract, and otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in responding to enquiries and improving the app. The information is deleted when it is no longer required for this purpose and no statutory retention obligation prevents deletion.
When you open a website, feedback or other external link, you leave the app’s local environment. The relevant web server receives technically necessary connection data, in particular your IP address. The destination’s own privacy information governs its content, further processing and retention periods.
7. Recipients and international transfers
Digitmedia does not transfer app or health data to its own servers or to advertising, analytics or data-trading companies. The only recipients of website and contact data may be the hosting and e-mail providers used to deliver those services.
Apple provides iOS, watchOS, Apple Health and optional iCloud synchronisation and processes data within these services under its own responsibility. Whether and to what extent Apple processes data in third countries depends on the Apple services you use, your device settings and Apple’s privacy information.
8. Retention
App settings, Bluetooth identifiers and local titles and notes generally remain stored until you change or delete them or remove the app. Data in Apple Health remains stored until you delete it in Apple Health or through a suitable app function. The criteria stated in the relevant sections apply to server logs and contact enquiries.
9. Your rights
Where the statutory requirements are met, you have in particular the right to:
- access (Art. 15 GDPR),
- rectification (Art. 16 GDPR),
- erasure (Art. 17 GDPR),
- restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
- data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
- object to processing based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR),
- withdraw consent with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR).
Most app data resides only on your device or in Apple Health and Digitmedia has no access to it. You can therefore exercise many of these rights directly in the app, the Health app or iOS Settings. For any other privacy request, contact us at support@digitmedia.de.
10. Right to lodge a complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW).
11. Changes to this privacy policy
We update this privacy policy when app or website features or legal requirements change. The current version published on this page applies.
